In loving memory of PFC Jacob H. Wykstra, KIA 05/28/2014. Maruf, Afghanistan

About Us

Our story

On May 28, 2014, our Hero was taken from us. PFC Jacob H. Wykstra of 4th ID, 1-12, A-CO was KIA while on a night mission to save an injured Afghani soldier. The UH-60 Blackhawk helicopter he was riding in crashed, injuring everyone inside. Jake was the only one who was killed... Our worlds were turned upside down the very next day when two uniformed men showed up at our doors, notifying us of his death. Quickly thereafter, we were given the opportunity to fly to Dover Air Force Base in Delaware to witness his arrival on US soil, his Dignified Transfer. The financial burden of this last minute trip was difficult, but none of us were willing to miss that moment. We recognized that this may be a challenge that most families who lose a loved one in service face, and we wanted to do something to help.

This is how Flights for Fallen Families was born.

our mission

We are an organization dedicated to financially assisting Gold Star Families after the loss of their beloved Hero. Whether it be a trip to attend a funeral or internment ceremony, a memorial service, or a last minute trip to Dove Air Force Base to witness a Dignified Transfer, we are here.
